Sam is my homie from Philly, back in the high school days ( so we’re talking almost 15 years ago at the time of this writing – but who’s counting). Sam was obviously a beast of a writer, as evidenced by this video, but he’s gone on to become a really dope artist in general. one thing I always admired and respected about Sam was that he’s relentless with it, and took graffiti as more than just some knucklehead mischief stuff to do with his free time, and now his art is working for him.

sam was also involved in some of the famous Philadelphia Mural Arts Program‘s numerous art installations across town, (like my brother Justin was, years ago)- including the fantastic Love Letter series. I’ll be watching his site to keep up with what’s going on with him.

nice little look at the man behind the beats, frenchman producer extraordinaire Onra. his Long Distance album was one of the unsung gems dropped in 2010, and a definite piece of inspiration for the music i’ve been making recently. also worth looking into (but not nearly as dope in my opinion) are his projects with fellow Parisian producer Quetzal.

I’ve been inundating myself with so much inspirational stimuli over the past few months, and while i’m not so naive to think that such a process will magically make things happen, the information I’ve received and the things I’ve been privy to have made me so excited t get going. it’s definitely a nervous excitement,an excitement tempered with raw anxiety, but this has gotta be it.

I used have a misconception about myself, that I hated work. and that thought would scare me because work is what sustains. it took me breaking free from my 9-5 and testing the waters of self employment and working from my creativity to realize that its not that I hate working, it’s that I love doing work that I believe in. it’s so important to recognize that so that we can get to the business of making things, uninhibited by the fear of inability to perform.

but it’s nearly May now. nearly half of the year in the can. and so much to do. enough with the personal discoveries, time to go harder in the lab.
